As those who have had varicose or spider vein treatment will understand there is a schedule of follow up depending on what type of veins you have had treated. For deep varicose vein treatment (Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy or Endovenous Laser Ablation) the schedule is 1 week, 6 weeks and 1 year after your initial vein treatment and then annually thereafter if I feel it is required.
For surface (spider veins) the usual follow up is 3 months after your second spider vein treatment at which time there is often a smaller treatment required. I then don’t usually schedule review visits for spider veins because it is generally not required. It is generally best for spider veins to leave as long as possible between treatments as it has been shown that in the long term the best cosmetic result is obtained (and the cost less!) by having fewer bigger treatments rather than having frequent smaller treatments. The average between treatments seems to be between 5-10 years but this depends on age, severity, previous treatments and family history.
As always, if you are concerned about any aspect of your treatment please ring the Vein Doctors Group on 1800 483 467 and schedule a review appointment to determine if your situation can be improved.
