How does a spider vein cream work?

How does a spider vein cream work? Or does it even work at all?

Creams for varicose veins and spider veins are described as natural treatments but the question is whether they work at all.

Applying a topical spider vein cream may seem like a painless and affordable way to get rid of that network of tiny veins on your legs – but will it work?
There is a range of creams available. There’s a myriad of creams claiming to treat veins, ranging from natural, herbal creams through to medical creams containing active ingredients. To people who desperately wish to remove or, at least, diminish the appearance of unpleasant spider veins and varicose veins, this probably seems like the perfect solution.

CREAMS FOR SPIDER VEINS AND VARICOSE VEINS DO NOT PRODUCE RESULT

If you do buy a spider vein cream, don’t expect miracles – it is unlikely that a topical treatment on its own can completely get rid of the problem. Vein removal creams are made up of many of the ingredients that can be found in a regular hand lotion, sometimes with the addition of some active ingredient. The best you can expect is that the active ingredient will slightly fade any lighter veins.

Our team wants patients to be aware that many natural remedies are not proven effective, especially for patients with moderate to severe aesthetic issues. If you are unhappy with the appearance of veins on your legs, arms, or another area of your body, it is best to consult a medical specialist about your options.

HOW TO ACTUALLY GET YOUR SPIDER AND VARICOSE VEINS REMOVED

Instead of spending your time and effort on topical creams, we recommend getting medical advice to find out what the ideal treatment for you would be. Getting rid of spider veins is actually safe and very easy. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a saline solution into the veins, causing them to clump together, dissolve and become less apparent. For larger or more severe veins, Endovenous Laser Ablation is a better option. In this procedure, laser seals the vein with heat and stops the blood flow, causing the vein to disintegrate.
Find a board-certified vascular surgeon who is experienced in vein removal. If you have a family history of varicose veins or bleeding disorders, or a personal history of clotting, you may need to undergo additional evaluation. It’s also important you talk with our team about your concerns, expectations and goals to ensure you are both on the same page. If you have any questions about our treatments or any concerns about your condition, don’t hesitate to arrange a consultation with our team.
