Unfortunately, doctors cannot be up to date with all areas of Medicine and sometimes give opinions about treatments that are out of date.
The world has moved away from stripping largely because of the risks of that form of treatment and the disappointing results in the medium to long term. Unfortunately, many patients who have undergone stripping will complain that there is the appearance of new varicose veins within 3-5 years and these veins can often be traced to the stumps of the veins that were removed. This means that conventional vein “stripping” is actually vein “pruning” and this is the main reason why stripping’s popularity has been superseded by the non-surgical procedures (UGS and ELA) that do not have this problem and have less risk.
